Michael ready for move

Grimsby striker Michael Reddy has stunned the club by handing in a transfer request.

Grimsby Town striker Michael Reddy has stunned the club by handing in a transfer request.

The 26-year-old rejected an extension to his contract earlier in the summer, sparking speculation he was looking to leave The Mariners.

A number of clubs were linked with the former Sunderland man, including Leeds and Hull, and their chances of signing the hit-man appear to have risen after he asked for a transfer.

Reddy scored 14 goals in the league last term and was expected to lead the line for Graham Rodger's men this season.

However, just four days before the start of the new season, Rodger may need to begin his search for another striker with Reddy appearing to be on his way out of Blundell Park.

"Despite recent attempts to secure the player's services beyond the end of the 2006/ 2007 Season, Michael Reddy has stunned the club by handing in a transfer request," a statement on the club's official website read.

"The 26-year-old front man made his request to Graham Rodger, the man who Reddy had praised for improving him as a player.

"The Mariners have already taken up the option on Reddy's contract which would keep him at Blundell Park until the end of the current campaign.

"The board of directors will now consider Reddy's request, but, in the meantime, Reddy will remain a Grimsby Town player."
