Villa set for long-term deal

Valencia are close to agreeing a new seven-year deal with David Villa.

Valencia are close to agreeing a new deal with striker David Villa that will see him remain at the club until 2013.

The news was confirmed by the club's president Juan Soler after Valencia's 0-0 draw with Malaga.

The deal, which should be completed in the next few days, will see Villa earn ‚é¼120,000 (£82,000) per week, doubling his current salary.

The decision was made to extend the Spaniard's deal after several English clubs began to take an interest in Villa and a new deal will put an end to any speculation linking the striker away from the Mestalla.

Villa has scored 16 La Liga goals this term, second only to Barcelona's Samuel Eto'o.
