Adebayor left in limbo

Monaco have barred unsettled striker Emmanuel Adebayor from training with the first team.

Monaco have barred unsettled striker Emmanuel Adebayor from training with the first team.

Adebayor had infuriated the Monaco officials after failing to return to the club following the winter break.

The Togo international, who is now away on international duty at the African Cup of Nations, has repeatedly missed training in the last week and the club have decided to take action.

Monaco president Michel Pastor revealed Adebayor has been excluded from all first team activities and will face a heavy fine on his return from the African Cup of Nations.

"He will no longer train with the professional team until further notice and there will also be financial sanctions," said Pastor.

"He is invisible, I met him on Monday and told him a professional player should be a responsible person, not a spoiled baby, you don't do that with a team who gave you an opportunity to be what you are today."

The news is sure to intensify speculation that Adebayor could leave Stade Louis II this month in the transfer window.

Arsenal, West Ham, Bolton, Manchester City and Marseille have all been linked with Adebayor and Pastor admitted they could let him go for the right offer.

"If we have a good offer we will discuss it, I won't say anything else," added Pastor.
