Del Horno targets clean sweep
Chelsea star Asier Del Horno says The Blues can win everything this season.
Chelsea star Asier Del Horno says The Blues can make history this season by completing a clean sweep of all four competitions they are involved in.Jose Mourinho's men claimed both The Premiership and the Carling Cup last season and have started the new term in seemingly unstoppable form.
The London side have won all eight Premiership games as well as taking four points from two UEFA Champions League fixtures, and look to be almost invulnerable after conceding just two goals in the process.
Now Spanish left back Del Horno believes that his side can trump the famous Manchester United team of 1998/99 that won an unheralded treble, and possibly the Arsenal side of 2003/04 that remained unbeaten for the duration of the Premiership campaign.
"I think it's possible for Chelsea to win everything this season," said Del Horno.
"We're a team of winners and have an amazing manager who's a winner too.
"Last season we only lost one Premiership match and one game in Europe.
"Now I want to go the whole season unbeaten, although that may be too much to ask, but this team is ready to make history by winning everything."
The Blues have attracted criticism for being boring so far this season and their success is undoubtedly founded on a watertight backline.
Del Horno, a summer arrival from Athletic Bilbao who has just returned from a thigh strain, says he is enjoying being part of Mourinho's defence although credited the rest of the side for their contribution to the succession of clean sheets.
"It feels great to be part of this defence but the basis of our success is how the whole team defends," Del Horno continued.
"Our last line is very solid with players like John Terry and William Gallas, but we owe a lot to the players in front of us."
