Vogel to move to Milan

PSV midfielder Johann Vogel has agreed to join Milan on a free transfer.

PSV Eindhoven midfielder Johann Vogel has agreed to join Milan on a free transfer.

The Switzerland international has opted to quit the Dutch champions when his contract expires in the summer.

Vogel has concurred on a three-year deal with the Serie A giants, who are still licking their wounds after Wednesday's UEFA Champions League final defeat to Liverpool.

Milan have fended off competition from fellow Italian side Lazio to secure the signature of Vogel.

Lazio had been favourites to sign the 28-year-old, ahead of Fiorentina and Roma, and Vogel conceded earlier this month he would be tempted by a switch to the Eternal City.

But, after impressing against Milan in the Champions League semi-finals, he has now sealed a move to San Siro.

The midfielder had been seeking a three-year contract to take him up to the 2008 European Championship and he voiced his pleasure at joining the Rossoneri.

"They are a fantastic, top club," beamed Vogel. "This is a dream for me."

Vogel had spent six years at the Philips Stadion but will now head to Italy following successful talks with Milan coach Carlo Ancelotti and vice-president Adriano Galliani.
