Aiston stuns Mariners

Shrewsbury Town winger Sam Aiston has rejected a move to Grimsby Town.

Shrewsbury Town winger Sam Aiston has rejected a move to Grimsby Town, but the club are still confident of landing Stoke striker Jermaine Palmer.

It was believed that Mariners boss Russell Slade had agreed terms over a two-year deal with Aiston who was expected to sign on the dotted line on Wednesday.

However, the Grimsby website has now stated that Aiston has turned down the offer - with another League Two club having stepped in with a more tempting deal.

Slade, though, is more optimistic of pushing through a deal for Stoke teenager Palmer.

The 18-year-old has impressed on trial at Blundell Park and is expected to sign a deal to continue his career on the East Coast.
