Rodgers set for exit

Shrewsbury Town striker Luke Rodgers has turned down the offer of a new contract.

Shrewsbury Town striker Luke Rodgers looks set to leave the club after turning down the offer of a new contract.

The former Gay Meadow trainee seems ready to find pastures new after a seven-year spell with the League Two outfit.

Should Rodgers move on from the Shropshire club in the summer, Shrewsbury will receive a fee for the speedy attacker, as he is currently under 24 years of age.

The striker revealed his intention to make the step up to a higher level before the start of next season.

"The gaffer has offered me a contract, but at the minute I'm sitting tight and seeing what my options are," Rodgers told the club's official website.

"I've been at the club for nine years now and I want to play at a higher level, so want to see if I can give myself a new challenge and score the goals I've scored at Shrewsbury elsewhere.

"It's only a short career and I want to play at the highest level I can in that time and I hope that everyone can understand that."
