Mutu goes to Livorno
Adrian Mutu will have to temporarily join Livorno until Juve lose a non-EU player.
Adrian Mutu's official presentation as a Juventus player, originally scheduled for Wednesday, has been postponed due to unforeseen transfer problems.Due to fulfilling their non-EU quota for this season, the Bianconeri cannot register the Romanian international until they free up a place in the squad by disposing of a foreign player.
To bypass this issue fellow Serie A side Livorno have agreed to register the 26-year-old until such time when Juve are able to do so themselves, in a similar move to that engineered between Inter and Chievo for the signing of Carlos Gamarra in 2002.
"It's just a favour we made to Juventus, and as an exchange at the end of the season they will give us a few of their young players," Livorno president Aldo Spinelli told Gazzetta dello Sport.
"We sat round a table and whilst Mutu was signing for Livorno and became our player, we were signing his transfer to Juventus.
"Now it's up to [Juve supremo Luciano] Moggi, when they have overcome the transfer problem that was blocking him they will register our agreement, everything will be complete in two weeks."
Juventus announced the signing of the controversial forward on a free transfer last week, after he was sacked by Chelsea for testing positive for cocaine.
Chelsea have requested compensation for the Juve move, and The Football Association are expected to rule on this in the next few days
