Zajec: Yakubu has price

Velimir Zajec has confirmed that Yakubu Aiyegbeni could leave Portsmouth.

Portsmouth boss Velimir Zajec has confirmed that Yakubu Aiyegbeni will leave if they receive a 'good offer' for him.

The Nigerian has bagged 11 goals this season and is Pompey's prized asset after a fantastic debut campaign in the top flight last term.

However, the form of the African striker has again seen him strongly linked with moves away from the club - as he was in the summer.

Portsmouth managed to fend off interest last year, but now it appears to be increasingly unlikely that Aiyegbeni will remain with the club - although a move this month is by no means certain.

"Yakubu is a big talent and a big player," said Zajec.

"He is one of the best attacking players and it's normal that teams are interested in him.

"He is a big investment for this club and is very important. But if the price is good for the club the club must come first. Everyone has a price.

"We are not in the habit of selling players below their price."

Chelsea, Liverpool, Newcastle, Middlesbrough, Aston Villa and Everton are all thought to be keeping tabs on Aiyegbeni - but a price tag of nearly £12 million is likely to put them all off until the summer at least.
