Milan striker Filippo Inzaghi has talked about his ordeal in The Maldives.
Milan striker Filippo Inzaghi has talked of his ordeal after being caught by the tsunami that hit the Maldives. The former Juventus hit-man was one of several Serie A players visiting the holiday islands for Christmas after the Italian league took its annual winter break.
They were caught by the tsunami that suddenly struck the Maldives on Boxing Day after an earthquake near the coast of Indonesia caused massive tidal waves that struck various South East Asian countries with devastating force.
Like his Serie A counterparts, Inzaghi was stranded in the Maldives for a couple of days before returning to Milan on Tuesday after the Italian government arranged a special flight to fly Italian tourists home.
The striker revealed that they were fortunate with the timing of when the tsunami struck them on Sunday.
"Luckily, everything happened during the day and light alerted us to what was happening and helped us make the right decisions," Inzaghi told reporters at Milan's Malpensa intercontinental airport.
"I climbed on a house roof.
"Surely, we all had fear, it's normal."
Meanwhile, Rossoneri boss Carlo Ancelotti is confident his side can build on the successes of 2004.
"It will depend a lot how we will feel between March and April, but considering how we ended the year, I can be optimistic," Ancelotti told Gazzetta dello Sport.
"Our aim can be only this - Climbing more at the top, at the top of world.
"2004 has been a year to frame, from the continuity point of view, and it is showed by the fact we have earned more points than everyone.
"Repeating ourselves isn't easy, but there are the conditions to do it and to make it better.
"We have players that in the first six months of this season haven't been able to produce a lot and in 2005, they can give us a big push."
