Keegan praises Viduka

Kevin Keegan believes Mark Viduka was the difference between Boro and City.

Kevin Keegan believes that Australian striker Mark Viduka was the difference between Middlesbrough and Manchester City.

The former Leeds United ace netted twice in the 3-2 win for Boro with Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink also notching for the North East side.

Robbie Fowler equalised to bring the visitors level with Bradley Wright-Phillips' late strike proving nothing more than a consolation.

Keegan was unhappy with a few of his players on the night, but bemoaned the fact that his squad is not big enough to rotate his players.

"I don't think either of us played very well tonight," said Keegan.

"There have been five goals and possibly we could have scored another couple each - but when I look at the video later I'll see some players who under-performed and I'm sure Steve McClaren will think the same.

"Viduka made the difference and so did Downing - the sooner they get him into the England squad the better.

"Middlesbrough have got a lot of experience with Colin Cooper and Gareth Southgate at the back but we didn't give them a game and we are kidding ourselves if we say we did."
