Desailly hails Terry impact

Marcel Desailly believes John Terry has become the embodiment of Chelsea.

Marcel Desailly believes John Terry has become the embodiment of Chelsea and has tipped him to lead the club to silverware.

The cultured French defender used to partner Terry at the heart of Chelsea's backline and has now compared his former team-mate to Milan legend Paolo Maldini.

Desailly is confident Terry, still only 23-years-old, will become the cornerstone of the West London outfit's likely success in the not too distant future.

''John can really be the image of the club- he is the one that stands out,'' Desailly told The Sun.

''There will be plenty of foreigners who will come and go but he will stay and make the new players understand the spirit of the club and the story of where it has come from.

''You have to keep that kind of player - you don't want him to go to any other team.

''He will be like Tony Adams was with Arsenal and Paolo Maldini with Milan.

''Now he is the captain and the only player in the team to have come through the youth system.

''It is great to have a player like that and that is the reason he recently got such a good contract.''
