Sky Blues sign Royal

Coventry City have signed Reading centre back Adie Williams on a free transfer.

Coventry City have signed experienced centre back Adie Williams on a free transfer from fellow Championship side Reading.

The 33-year-old is the club's second signing in less than a week after defender Florent Laville joined on loan from Premiership club Bolton Wanderers last week.

The former Wolves player passed a medical on Friday before putting pen-to-paper on a two-and-a-half-year deal with The Sky Blues this week.

Williams's arrival at Highfield Road will boost Peter Reid's backline following the summer sale of Calum Davenport to Tottenham Hotspur.

The Wales international will be included in the Coventry squad that faces Preston North End in The Championship on Wednesday evening.

"Adie has the experience and maturity which can only benefit our side," Reid told the club's official website.

"He is a talented defender and natural leader, who will be able to help the younger players on the pitch, as well as helping to keep us solid at the back."
