Rafael van der Vaart believes Edgar Davids is his main rival for a Holland place.
Ajax midfielder Rafael van der Vaart has revealed he will have to fight with Edgar Davids to win a place in the Holland starting line-up.The talented Ajax captain has recently spoken with Dutch coach Marco van Basten and came to the conclusion he is playing for a place on the left-hand side of midfield.
Van Basten is intent on playing a 4-3-3 formation and van der Vaart believes both himself and Davids are vying for a place in his new look side.
''At this moment it seems logical to me that Davids will get preference in that way of playing,'' he told AD Sportwereld.
''But I have told the national coach that I will battle for it. I have to make sure I will be better than Edgar.
''It was a long talk, in that we discussed non-football matters. My experience is that Van Basten is very open.
''Certainly, at Ajax there is a lot of work for me to do.''
