Lehmann staying with Arsenal

Jens Lehmann has reiterated his desire to remain at Highbury, and has hit back at those who have criticised his displays for The Gunners.

The German international helped Arsene Wenger's team go unbeaten throughout the Premiership season as they claimed the league title.

However, he has often found himself under attack after a series of high profile blunders and rumours suggest Wenger may well look for a new No.1 during the summer.

Lehmann believes he does not have to defend himself from criticism as his record over the season speaks for itself, although he fully understands if Arsenal do sign a new keeper.

"The record this season is the best argument against my critics," stated the giant stopper.

"I've conceded less goals then we did for the last few seasons and we were unbeaten. You can't do more than that.

"If they are going to find someone who is better, then they have to sign him, of course. That's life and football."

The custodian is no stranger to controversy and has had several moments during the campaign when he has found himself in the spotlight.

Lehmann was warned about his conduct after throwing the ball at Kevin Phillips at the end of the match against Southampton this year and got involved with Tottenham's Robbie Keane in the North London derby at White Hart Lane.

But the former Borussia Dortmund player feels he has not deserved the attention he has got from officials and blames their actions for his moments of ill discipline.

"I'm a perfectionist and I demand this from the referees as well," he said.

"Whenever a player goes to a different country he has to adapt. I didn't know before that the refs sometimes don't know the rules here. I have to adapt to this.

"Because of this I've lost my temper twice."
