Division Three round-up

Danny Whittaker's last-minute goal earned ten-man Macclesfield an unlikely 2-2 draw at Division Three leaders Hull, while Doncaster made it seven straight wins with victory over Torquay.

Macclesfield stunned the home side taking the lead after just six minutes through Martin Carruthers, but the hosts hit back almost immediately with Richard Hinds levelling two minutes later.

The visitors suffered a blow on the stroke of half time with Colin Little seeing red for violent conduct.

The hosts made the numerical advantage count on 57 minutes with Danny Allsopp firing them in front. Hull looked set to take all three points, but Whittaker popped up in stoppage time to draw the sides level.

Doncaster closed to within two points of Hull with a narrow 1-0 win over Torquay.

Paul Green netted the only goal of the game on 21 minutes to celebrate Dave Penney's Manager of the Month award in style.

Oxford kept pace with the leading pack with a 3-1 win over Darlington to ensure Dave Hodgson's first game back in charge ended in defeat.

David McGurk got Hodgson's reign off to the perfect start with the opener after 23 minutes, but Mark Rawle equalised for Oxford seven minutes into the second half.

Dean Whitehead fired the hosts in front on 74 minutes before Danny Mellanby saw red four minutes later for the visitors.

The game appeared to ending all-square until Lee Unsworth grabbed the winner for the hosts two minutes from time.

Northampton picked up their first win under Colin Calderwood with a narrow 1-0 win over Southend. Welsh international Paul Trollope netted the all-important winning goal on the hour mark.

Scunthorpe moved into eighth spot with a 6-2 thumping over Huddersfield at Glanford Park with Steven McLean the inspiration with a fine hat trick.

Veteran midfielder Peter Beagrie sent the home side on their way with the opener on 17 minutes and Matthew Sparrow doubled the lead seven minutes later.

Andy Booth gave the visitors hope by pulling a goal back just a minute after the restart, but they were then reduced to ten men with Lee Fowler sent off for a second bookable offence minutes later.

Scunthorpe made their numerical advantage count with Terry Barwick restoring the two-goal cushion on 55 minutes and McLean added a fourth four minutes later. 

McLean grabbed his second and his 11th of the season after 68 minutes before Booth netted his second four minutes later to reduce the arrears.

McLean completed a superb day for himself and the club with his third three minutes from time to compound the misery for Huddersfield.

Carlisle stay rooted to the bottom of the table after going down to a 2-0 defeat at Lincoln.

The visitors faced an uphill struggle after just 20 minutes when Steve Livingstone was sent off for violent conduct.

Simon Yeo broke the deadlock on the stroke of half time and Gary Fletcher added a second five minutes after the break.

Gary Alexander's late goal gave Leyton Orient a hard-fought 2-1 win over Rochdale at Brisbane Road.

Matt Lockwood opened the scoring on 23 minutes converting from the penalty spot, but Lee McEvilly levelled things up just before the hour from the penalty spot.

The game looked set for a draw until Alexander netted the winner two minutes from time for the hosts.

Cheltenham and York shared the spoils after a 1-1 draw at Whaddon Road.

Jonathan Parkin fired the visitors in front 13 minutes from time, but Damian Spencer earned Cheltenham a point with an equaliser on 85 minutes.
