Ricksen fined for fireworks row

Rangers midfielder Fernando Ricksen has been fined £7,000 by a court after pleading guilty to assault and breach of the peace following an incident near his former home last November.

The Dutch international admitted to assaulting neighbour Andrew Killen in a row over his firing off of fireworks in the early hours of November 24 near his former home in Newton Mearns, near Glasgow.

The 27-year-old originally denied both charges and was due to stand trial but after appearing at Paisley Sheriff Court on Thursday, Ricksen changed his plea to guilty.

Following the court's decision, Ricksen's lawyer stated his client will be appealing the fine of £5,000 for assault and £2,000 for breach of the peace, claiming 'it was an excessive penalty'.

The Gers firebrand has been no stranger to controversy on the pitch, with the Dutchman having been on the receiving end of an attack from an Aberdeen supporter when both clubs met at Pittodrie earlier in the current Scottish Premier League season.
