The 28-year-old was stretchered off the pitch in the 72nd minute after suffering from a suspected heart attack during the game in Lyon and tragically failed to regain consciousness.
Medical staff tried in vain to bring Foe back to life but the news was confirmed 45 minutes after the game that Foe had tragically passed away.
Fifa released a statement from Lyon's medical centre confirming the tragic death of Foe.
"Marc Vivien Foe, who fainted, was taken to the medical block at the stadium to be placed under cardiac reanimation for 45 minutes," said Dr. Alfred Muller.
"That was not sufficient and he died. It is a sad day for football.
"It is still too early to determine the exact cause of death."
Foe was playing on his home ground at Lyon after playing the season on loan at Premiership side Manchester City, amid wrangles aimed at getting him released from the French side for a move back to England.
Foe was no stranger to fans and players both in France and England and emotions were running high as France took on Turkey in the later semi-final match, with French goalkeeper and Foe's Lyon team-mate Gregory Coupet in floods of tears, along with Thierry Henry and many others.
French Champions Lyon posted a heart-felt tribute to the African midfielder on the player's website.
"Marc-Vivien Foe will leave us the memory of a charming boy, the incarnation of the joy in life.
"We will keep of him his bursts of laughter. We will not forget you."
