Real's rival Ronnie offer confirmed
The brilliant Brazilian is set to leave Paris Saint Germain, despite their determination to keep him, and United were firm favourites to strike a deal.
However, information emerged from close to Real on Friday that the Spanish giants were furious to hear that Sir Alex Ferguson was so close to landing his man.
Several English newspapers claimed the transfer was as good as done, and this has sparked Real, who are still embroiled in the race for the Liga title, into action.
"He hasn't signed for United," Assis has been quoted as saying.
"We have had contact with various clubs but no deal is done.
"Ronaldinho is quietly going about his holidays as he knows he will be playing for a great club next season.
"But Real, as well as other sides, have made us an offer and Ronaldinho has more friends there than elsewhere.
"Everybody knows that and it could influence our decision."
Yet Ronaldinho has previously declared that he would prefer to play for United ahead of Real because they function as a team rather than 11 individuals.
The former Gremio genius is to play in the Confederations Cup but the talk over his future is now reaching fever pitch.
Should Real emerge triumphant in the race for his services, it would be a hammer blow to Ferguson, who has trailed his top target for over a year.
Quite where the Santiago Bernabeu outfit would squeeze another forward player into their line-up is another matter altogether.
