King facing seven-month lay-off

MARLON KING has been ruled out for a further seven months after undergoing a second operation to repair damaged ligaments in his knee.

The 22-year-old went down with the injury during January's trip to Derby County and was initially ruled out for the rest of this season.

However, the striker's rehabilitation is likely to take him into the start of next term - with his seven-month recovery estimation pencilling him in for a return in October.

The lay-off will be a major blow to King, who returned to the Gills line-up last October, following his release from prison.

He scored seven goals in 12 matches for the Kent club before suffering the agony of his knee injury at Pride Park.
