Barca stars deny sex slur

FIVE Barcelona stars are to demand compensation from a digital newspaper for a story about an alleged incident at a hotel in Madrid.

Philip Cocu, Daniel Garci'a (Dani), Gabriel Garci'a (Gabri), Patrick Kluivert and Gerard Lopez were the players alleged to have hired prostitutes at the Hesperia Hotel in Madrid in January 2002.

All the players deny the allegations and are seeking ‚é¼2.5 million each in compensation for the "very serious damage" caused by the reports.

Two internet sites, Micanoa.com and Telemadrid.com, published the stories and Telemadrid now stand to foot the whole bill if a court decides to award the players damages as Micanoa.com are now defunct and have become Diariodirecto.com.

The philanderings were alleged to have occurred after the rest of the Barca squad had gone to bed after watching Real Madrid versus Malaga on TV.

Barca were staying at the hotel preparing for their encounter with Rayo Vallecano when the five players were reported to have paid 2,404 euros for high class, luxurious call girls.

Barcelona vice-president Angel Fernandez fiercely denied the reports, saying: "No way did any Barcelona players take part in any orgy in the Hesperia hotel.

"Nobody sneaked anyone into their rooms and nobody paid for prostitutes.

"The players watched the Real Madrid game in the hotel lounge before going to their rooms at 23.30."
