Dugarry wants to be new Cantona or Ginola
Dugarry has left France in similar circumstances to Cantona and Ginola, who both departed for England under something of a cloud.
Both French stars graced English football with their individual style and brilliant skills and are now entrenched in Premiership history after starring for the likes of Manchester United, Leeds, Tottenham and Newcastle.
Dugarry is now hoping to follow his compatriots into English footballing legend.
"I am different. I'm like Ginola or Cantona," said Dugarry who will make his debut on Sunday against Arsenal after sealing his loan switch from Bordeaux.
"We are not understood because we are not afraid to be individual or to speak our minds. In France no one is indifferent to me - they either hate me or love me.
"For years I have turned up to training driving a Porsche. I have long hair, a beard. People judge me incorrectly because I am different.
"But in England I know people respect you as a footballer. I will do my maximum to save Birmingham in the Premiership and I have not come for the money."
Birmingham manager Steve Bruce has no doubts over his new signing, saying: "There's no doubt he will be a big success."
Dugarry makes his debut against The Gunners, but their manager Arsene Wenger has expressed his shock at the move.
"This move has really surprised me because a few years ago a player like Dugarry would never have been available to Birmingham," he said.
"It sums up the financial situation at the moment. Clubs like Birmingham can now get players they couldn't normally touch.
"Everywhere in Europe you can get any player you want as long as you have the money.
"But Birmingham are the only club in England who have really moved in this transfer window.
"They have signed four players in one week, more than many clubs make in an entire summer.
"Dugarry is a top-class international player and he will certainly be one of the best signings made during this transfer window.
"He can create a spark, he can run at people, make the final pass and score goals as well.
"He's not afraid of the physical side of the game and is prepared for that."
