Sunderland 0 Birmingham 1

SUNDERLAND'S recent resurgence came to an inglorious halt as they lost to a last minute winner at home to Birmingham City.

The Black Cats failed to build on their unbeaten run of five games and were lifeless in attack at The Stadium of Light.

In contrast, Birmingham were much the brighter of the teams, with the movement of front duo Clinton Morrison and Stern John posing a string of problems.

It was Morrison who snatched a deserved, last gasp winner for Blues after tormenting the home defence for the entire 90 minutes.

The Irish international charged down Jody Craddock's attempted clearance before homing in on Black Cats keeper Jurgen Macho and sliding the ball into the back of the net.

Just prior to the winner, the hosts almost went ahead in fortuitous fashion as Oliver Tebily's clearance ricocheted off Damien Johnson and onto the bar, but a goal for Sunderland would have been an injustice.
