EVERTON'S new signing Juliano Rodrigo has been given a ringing endorsement by one of the greatest players in Brazil's illustrious history - Jairzinho.

Toffees boss David Moyes has warded off interest from Middlesbrough and other Premiership sides to agree a one-year loan deal with Botafogo for the talented South American.

After impressing in the pre-season friendly with Shrewsbury, Rodrigo agreed personal terms with the Merseysiders, and only needs to pass a medical to complete the switch.

Everton will have an option to buy the 26-year-old for £3 million next year, and he is expected to feature in the forthcoming friendly matches in Scotland.

Certainly, Rodrigo has attracted glowing praise from Jairzinho, in an exclusive interview with planetfootball.com.

The 1970 World Cup star is convinced his compatriot will do well in The Premiership.

"He is very good," he enthused. "A very good player.

"He has a good left foot and is very talented.

"Rodrigo possesses a good shot, is a fine dribbler and is very fast.

"Whoever gets Rodrigo will be very lucky."
