Partick offer Whyte record deal

ABERDEEN defender Derek Whyte could be set to move to newly-promoted SPL side Partick Thistle on a Bosman free transfer.

The Dons skipper told manager Ebbe Skovdahl he would be leaving the club earlier this year, and young Scotsman Darren Young has already been named as his replacement for the captaincy.

The 33-year-old Whyte is believed to have been offered wages that would make him the highest paid Partick player ever, and he would also become captain.

Manager John Lambie has targeted the former Middlesbrough and Celtic man for the experience he would bring to what is a young Jags side.

They won the Scottish First Division by a ten-point margin last season, but will be keen to strengthen their squad for the step-up to competing in the top-flight.

There also remains the possibility that key Partick defender Scott Paterson may leave the club this summer.

Aberdeen meanwhile are facing the departure of several players, with Robbie Winters available on a free and Hicham Zerouali also on the way out.
