Vonk made Bafana Bafana skipper

SOUTH AFRICA have made first-choice goalkeeper Hans Vonk their captain for Wednesday's World Cup warm-up friendly in Georgia.

Bafana Bafana's new boss Jomo Sono, who took over the departed Carlos Queiroz, left the squad's three previous skippers out from his 19-man team list for the match in Tbilisi.

They include Charlton's Shaun Bartlett, Barnsley's Eric Tinkler, and Thabo Mngomeni, would was skipper in the friendly against Saudi Arabia earlier this month.

The 32-year-old Vonk was South Africa's number one in the 1998 World Cup finals in France, with the Heerenveen custodian winning 26 caps for his country.

Manchester United midfielder Quinton Fortune is the only English-based player in the squad for the Georgia friendly, as Sono also left out Watford's Pierre Issa and injured striker Benni McCarthy, though he is expected to return to action with to on-loan Portuguese club FC Porto in three weeks.

St. Gallen's Tebeho Mokoena returns to the squad since last playing in November last year and uncapped striker Jimmy Kauleza, who plays for Free State Stars, get his second call-up into the squad after not seeing any action against the Saudi Arabians in Florence, Italy.
