Montella agrees new Roma deal

ROMA striker Vincenzo Montella has signed a two-year extension to his deal with the club, which will keep him at The Stadio Olimpico until 2006.

The 27-year-old has been in talks with The Giallorossi for some time about a new deal and an agreement has been finally reached.

Montella has failed to hold down a regular place in Roma's side this season and it has been reported that he could leave after a major bust-up with coach Fabio Capello.

The player's agent Sergio Berti expects the deal to go through later this week and he dismissed reports of a disagreement with Capello.

"The agreement between Roma and Montella has existed for some time," said Berti.

"All that is missing is Montella's signature even if that is a formality. It should all be signed and sealed in the next couple of days."

There is no friction between the two men. Montella doesn't have a problem with the Roma boss."

Montella, who has only just returned from injury, will hope to regain his place in the team as he bids to win a place in Italy's squad for the World Cup.
