Bassett Slams "Cheater" Taricco

DAVE BASSETT launched a furious verbal attack on Mauricio Taricco, accusing the Tottenham defender of trying to get Leicester's Andy Impey sent off.

The former Queens Park Rangers flanker received a yellow card after a clash with the Argentinian Taricco, who went down reeling on the floor after the exchange.

Bassett, speaking after his side's 2-1 defeat at White Hart Lane,  left no one in any doubt as to his feelings over the incident.

"Taricco is a disgrace," said a livid Bassett. "I saw the incident clearly. Taricco went to put his head in Impey's face and Impey pushed him away, nothing more.

"But Impey ends up with a booking while he is rolling about on the floor - he is a bloody disgrace.

"Andy Impey got a booking for it but he should have been sent off for diving.

"It is gamesmanship. He is trying to get other players sent off. I am only giving you my view and it irritates me."

Tottenham boss Glenn Hoddle would not respond to Bassett's claim saying he did not see the incident clearly, but suggested some of Leicester's players were also guilty of indiscipline.

"Dave is obviously upset because he has lost another three points and it is an emotional time for a manager just after a game," Hoddle said.

"This game is all about opinions and the things he has said about Taricco are his opinion - but they are not mine. I think Dave has got to have words with some of his own players."
