NUMAN SIGNS NEW GERS DEAL

DUTCH defender Arthur Numan has handed Rangers a boost by signing a new contract that will keep him at Ibrox until 2003.

Rangers revealed the news after their 4-0 thumping 4-0 win over Dunfermline on Saturday, and is another boost to Dick Advocaat's resurgent side.

Numan has added further to the confidence emminating from Ibrox by claiming that he signed the deal in the belief that Rangers can reclaim the SPL title.

Although there is still uncertainty surrounding the future of manager Advocaat, Numan says that he is happy in Scotland, and with Rangers.

The 31-year-old was Advocaat's first signing as Gers boss, and the news comes just in time to provide

"I'm very pleased to extend my contract with Rangers for another year. In football you have to be happy where you work and I have never been happier than I have been at Rangers," Numan told the club's website.

"Everyone knows that last season was a massive disappointment but there is a genuine belief at Ibrox that we can change things around. Next week will obviously tell us a lot.

"If we can secure a victory over PSG next Thursday and then go to Parkhead and win then I think it will only confirm what everyone here feels and that is that we have the capability of winning prizes this season.

"My decision to extend has nothing to do with the manager's situation. Even if Dick Advocaat decides to leave I am more than happy to stay here because I really enjoy my life in Scotland and so does my girlfriend.

"I have had some troubles with injuries in my time at Rangers and maybe I have not played as many games as I might have so I would like to try and stay injury-free for the next season and a half and hopefully be part of a successful Rangers team."

Numan has joined the likes of Lorenzo Amoruso, Craig Moore and Neil McCann in pledging their future to the club, with Ibrox officials also hoping to seal new deals for Claudio Reyna and Stefan Klos in the near future.
