TARICCO PLEDGES TO CLEAR NAME

TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR defender Mauricio Taricco has vowed to fight to clear his name after the Football Association's video advisory panel recommended he should be charged for his challenge on Everton's Thomas Gravesen.

The former Ipswich Town man came in for some fierce criticism for the late lunge on the Danish international in the clash at Goodison Park last month which saw the player receive stitches to a gashed shin.

The incident was not spotted by the referee David Elleray and Taricco went unpunished but, after looking at video of the tackle, the panel have recommended he pick up a suspension.

The FA will wait for a reply from the Argentine star before deciding whether to charge him with violent conduct, which could lead to a possible three-match ban.

"Everyone has made a big meal out of this," said Taricco. "I try not to be a dirty player and I have received many bad tackles during my career, but it is football.

"Sometimes you have to make a decision very quickly on the pitch. I don't want to hurt anybody and my intention in that game was always to get the ball.

"These tackles happen and you can see them in the game every week. I don't know whether being judged by a video panel is fair or not but I will let people do what they think is right.

"If I get banned, it is something I will have to live with.

"I have not replied to the FA but I will give them my view of the situation. I will tell them I tried to get the ball.

"I am not saying this just to try and defend myself, but because it is the truth.

"I didn't want to hurt the guy. I didn't even know who it was. I just went in for a challenge in a split second. I have looked at the incident on video and I even get the ball.

"I will feel very upset if I am banned because nobody wants to miss any games."
