PENNANT'S A WANTED MAN

ARSENAL'S young striking prodigy Jermaine Pennant is attracting the interest of a string of Nationwide First Division clubs, and a loan deal could very well be in the offing.

Manchester City, Coventry City, Sheffield Wednesday and Nottingham Forest are believed to be leading the chase for the 18-year-old, who broke into the England Under-21 squad last season.

Pennant moved to Arsenal in January 1999 from Notts County, for a fee believed to be close to a £1 million.

He has made massive strides since his switch to Highbury and made his first team debut in a Worthington Cup game at Middlesbrough in November 1999.

He is now on the edge of the first team and is a regular in the Gunners second XI, but the North London club are now contemplating allowing one their most gifted young players to leave the club on a temporary basis.
