ANDERTON: I HAVE NOTHING TO PROVE
The 29-year-old has just pledged his future to the North London outfit by signing a new four-year deal and he is hoping to put behind him his injury problems which have curtailed his time at White Hart Lane.
"I know some fans may have doubts about me because of my injury record," said Anderton. "I don't feel I have anything to prove when I am fit, but I want to stay fit because then people will be talking about my football.
"There are a few reasons why I'm staying and Glenn Hoddle is one. I feel the club is moving forward or I wouldn't have signed."
The former Portsmouth ace is determined to make Spurs a real force in The Premiership next season and in the process earn himself a recall to the England set-up.
Anderton last figured for England against Italy in November, coming on as a substitute when caretaker-coach Peter Taylor's young side lost 1-0 in Rome, and injuries have prevented him from playing under new boss Sven Goran Eriksson.
"My immediate target now is to stay fit," said Anderton "And I m sure Glenn will do whatever he can to help me do that.
"I say it every summer, but we've got to be looking to get into the top six next season - that's the aim.
"I'm sure the manager will be looking at it that way.
"I know he feels I can get back in the England squad, but that's not on my mind at the moment. I still believe I can play at that level, but one step at a time."
