GILLET CALLED UP TO FRANCE SQUAD

FRENCH national coach Roger Lemerre has called up Nantes defender Nicolas Gillet into the France squad for the Confederations Cup to replace injured Monaco star Martin Djetou.

Djetou has been struggling with a knee injury and will see a specialist but is expected to be ruled out of the tournament to be played Japan and South Korea in June.

"I have to meet a specialist on Friday in Strasbourg, but I think he will advise me to take some rest," said Djetou.

"I have had pain in my knee for some time and I have even played the last few games for Monaco injured."

Gillet is now the third player from French Champions Nantes in the 23-man squad, and joins up with team-mates Mickael Landreau and French Player of the Year Eric Carriere.

The 25-year-old is also one of seven players in the squad who have yet to win their first cap.
