BARNES TO BLAME FOR SIGNINGS - DALGLISH
The signings made last season have been put under the spotlight recently with Eyal Berkovic constantly being linked with a move away from Parkhead, and manager Martin O`Neill disclosing that Rafael Scheidt was also set to leave the club having never settled in Glasgow.
The two players cost a combined £11 million, but have both hardly played since O`Neill took over at Parkhead.
"It was John who signed all the players at Celtic," Dalglish said. "I don't know who was the worst although there were more bad ones than good ones.
"Obviously there was some consultation between us but, at the end of the day, the guy who is responsible for who plays, how we played and where and when we trained is the guy who is ultimately responsible for buying players."
Barnes also signed Olivier Tebily, as well as Stephane Bonnes, Dmitri Kharine and Ian Wright on free transfers and they all failed to have the desired impact at Celtic Park.
Dalglish also confirmed that it was a dressing room conflict, with Mark Viduka in particular, at half-time during the disastrous Scottish Cup defeat to Inverness Caledonian Thistle, that spelled the end for Barnes as Celtic head coach.
"I don't think he has been soured by what happened," Dalglish added.
"John had the best start to a season of any Celtic manager other than Jock Stein, although Martin has now surpassed that.
"However, after the winter break things started to go wrong. We drew with Kilmarnock and then lost 3-2 to Hearts after being 2-0 up.
"Inverness Caley then beat us in the Scottish Cup and John had a problem with Mark Viduka in the dressing room. That was the beginning of the end for him."
