WENGER REASSURES LUZHNY

ARSENAL defender Oleg Luzhny has been reassured by manager Arsene Wenger that he does have a future at Highbury.

The Ukrainian full back has struggled to adapt to Premiership football, with some reports even going as far as claiming that he has been transfer-listed by the Champions League hopefuls.

However, Wenger, speaking at a press conference in Ukraine, ahead of the tie with Shakhtar Donetsk, insisted that he was very pleased with the progress of the former Dinamo Kiev star.

"We are satisfied with Oleg," he told reporters.

"We give every newcomer six months for adjustment. He needed this six months to learn English and to adapt.

"It is quite difficult for a Ukrainian in a new environment.

"For example, a Frenchman learns English much quicker.

"But he has the qualities which Ukraine should be proud of - he is always ready to fight.

"He is much respected by our team for being smart and he also played very well in a central defensive position when we needed him."
