TOWN WANT £1M VERHEYEN

IPSWICH`S Belgian target has been identified as Gert Verheyen but Bruges are reluctant to allow the Euro 2000 midfielder to leave the club.

George Burley revealed his interest in an attacking midfielder, and that he was awaiting response to his bid, with initial reports suggesting the man in question was Guy Vermant.

However, Verheyen is the top target for Town after impressing for Belgium during the summer`s showpiece tournament and an offer of 65 million francs (just less than £1 million) has reportedly been tabled.

Our sources claim that the 30-year-old has heard of the Suffolk club`s interest and he wants to discuss the possible move to England with Bruges. The terms are very tempting for the player and he has been offered a three-year contract.

Bruges want to retain their international star but his desire to at least discuss the prospect of a transfer may lead to some developments.

Meanwhile, Burley is confident that defensive find Titus Bramble will sign a new five-year deal at Portman Road.

"We`re working on it and hope for a successful conclusion," reported the Ipswich boss.
