WIJNHARD INJURED IN CAR ACCIDENT

HUDDERSFIELD TOWN have received a major scare after top marksman Clyde Wijnhard was involved in a car accident early on Sunday morning.

The 26-year-old striker was returning to Leeds on the A1 after a weekend visit to the North East when the Mercedes jeep in which he was travelling veered off the road.

The former Leeds forward is in a stable condition in hospital but has undergone an operation to pin a compound fracture of his arm.

The loss of their star striker will be a major blow to Town boss Steve Bruce but he is just relieved that the accident was not more serious.

"Whenever something like this happens you are just relieved that the person has come out alive, it sounds like Clyde has been very fortunate," said Bruce.

"The doctors will be seeing him later today and hopefully then be able to give us more details on his condition."
