REGGAE BOY JOHNSON?

JAMAICA have asked David Johnson to reconsider his international allegiance and decide to play for them in February`s Concacaf Gold Cup.

Ipswich star Johnson, Jamaican born, qualifies to play for all of the home countries as he holds a British passport and has yet to decide who to play for at full international level.

The 23-year-old striker has played for Jamaica in a friendly, one game for England B and was included in a Wales squad for the qualifying games for Euro 2000 before pledging his international future to Scotland ahead of their Euro 2000 play-off with England.

Horace Reid, general secretary of the Jamaican Football Federation, has pleaded with Johnson to lead the Reggae Boyz attack in the Gold Cup, saying: "The door is still open to David. He is an exceptional talent who has established himself as one of the top players in his division.

"Whichever country he chooses, he will be an asset to the team. The bottom line is that David was born here."

He also commented on allegations that Johnson had received death threats telling him to play for the Jamaicans, adding "That is utter nonsense."
