Di Matteo is the right man for now, says Wilkins
Ray Wilkins says Roberto Di Matteo is the right man to take temporary charge of Chelsea.
Andre Villas-Boas paid the price as Chelsea lost 1-0 at West Bromwich Albion on Saturday and Di Matteo has now been placed in charge until the end of the season.
"Robbie has managed at Premier League level with West Brom so he knows the situation and has been around for quite a while," Wilkins told
Sky Sports News HD.
"I would say it is better that he takes over than bringing in someone until the end of the year.
I think Robbie is the right man to do it along with (coach)Steve Holland; I think that will be a perfect match. Let's see how they got to the end of the season."
Exceptional
Long-term names such as Rafa Benitez, Jose Mourinho and Fabio Capello have all been touted, but for Wilkins there is only one candidate for the job.
"(Jose)Mourinho is the man; if anyone can get hold of him then he can make people tick," added Wilkins.
"Capello has done everything in Europe at league level and has been an exceptional manager.
"I would not say Benitez would be the man; he is the 4-4-2 merchant and that would be turning Chelsea right round because they have been 4-4-3 for a long period."
