New Zealand are set to win a tug-of-war over the services of Plymouth Argyle striker Rory Fallon.
All Whites' head coach Ricki Herbert wants to field his strongest team for a friendly against Mexico in Los Angeles next month and is adamant Fallon will linking-up with the squad.
However, the fixture which is to be played on March 3 falls between two crucial games for The Pilgrims, an away clash to Sheffield United and a home game against Preston.
Argyle boss Paul Mariner wants Fallon to skip the friendly, while the 27-year-old is also happy to sit out the friendly so he can play his part in the Pilgrims' relegation battle.
But Herbert insists the Wellington-born player has no choice in the matter.
Stature
"We'll call all the players we feel we need for a game of that stature. Rory will be part of that," he told New Zealand's
Newstalk ZB.
"They're just in the midst of a difficult season. They're trying to avoid relegation. But at the end of it, we've got a national team that's going to be proudly representing itself in a World Cup.
"This is the only time that we get to get the full strength side together before that event. We have access to the players and I think that's just a process that we'll be calling on."
