Swedish coach hopes situation will not happen again

Ivory Coast manager Sven Goran Eriksson has called for discussions on the World Cup ball to be held before the next tournament. The ball for South Africa 2010, the Adidas Jabulani, has come under criticism from players and goalkeepers who seemingly cannot read the flight of the ball. There have been a number of high-profile errors in the early stages of the competition, most notably Robert Green's howler which gifted the USA a draw against England. Eriksson's Ivory Coast side kicked-off their campaign with a 0-0 draw against Portugal in Group G, but the experienced coach believes the situation with the ball should not be allowed to happen again. The former England boss said: "I can understand the goalkeepers are not happy with it at all, but it's too late to do something about that in this World Cup. "It's a decision for the authorities for the next big tournament, whether it's in Africa or Europe or wherever it is. "I think it should be discussed and everyone should listen to the top goalkeepers in the world because I am sure this doesn't do them any favours at all. "Maybe we will see some goals, but discussion between managers, the company who produce the football and the football players, that would be good." The Adidas Jabulani was designed at Loughborough University in England and is made of eight thermally-bound panels, after considerable academic input.
