Highly-rated striker earns pay rise but is unlikely to pen new deal
Freiburg general manager Dirk Dufner has revealed that the club are to put improved terms to in-demand forward Papiss Cisse.
The Senegalese striker was hot property during the recent transfer window, with a number of clubs looking to land his signature.
There was plenty of Premier League interest in his services, with Newcastle believed to have lodged a late bid for his services.
No move materialised, though, and Cisse remains in the Bundesliga for now.
Freiburg are keen to keep him there and are prepared to reward his impressive performances during his 18 months with the club with fresh terms.
Changes
They are, however, aware that the interest from afar has turned Cisse's head and accept that they are unlikely to persuade the 26-year-old to agree an extension to a deal that is set to run until 2014.
"We have informed Papiss Cisse that we would like to make changes to one or two aspects of his current contract," said Dufner.
"We feel we have to take into account his performances for our club.
"I don't think we will be able to offer Papiss a contract extension. I don't think he would be willing to consider that."
Cisse has plundered 32 goals in 52 appearances for Freiburg and has already netted four in as many games this term.
