Spot-on decision of the day: England are no longer in South Africa, but I just wanted to say a quick 'well done' to the FA for not bowing to the idiotic calls for yet another change of manager.
It appears there were off-field issues ripping the England squad's morale to pieces - and that was out of Fabio Capello's hands.
Just look at his CV and you'll see it's far superior to those managers named as possible successors - the best way forward is to keep the Italian at the helm while we bring some younger players into the senior team, then let Stuart Pearce take over the reins in a few years' time as he'll have learnt an incredible amount under the Italian's guidance.
Shock of the day: There will certainly have been a few people to have backed Holland before the World Cup started, and a fair few of them, I dare say, would have stuck with them heading into their quarter-final with Brazil in Port Elizabeth.
But after a first-half roasting at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium, I wonder how many people were still unwavering in their support for Bert van Marwijk's troops. The Dutch were all at sea in a first period totally dominated by Brazil, who seemed to have mastered the art of both breathtaking attacking football and resolute defending. But if you don't take your chances (see Save of the Day, below), you are always open to being punished. And fair play to Holland, they really took the game to the Samba stars in the second period - and even made their defence look very much like the Brazil of old.
So it's the Dutch that march on and you wouldn't back against them to reach the final with Uruguay lying in wait in the last four.
Save of the day: Robinho got Brazil off to a flying start with a clinical right-footed finish against Holland in Port Elizabeth - but it should have been 2-0 to the Samba superstars on the half-hour mark.
The Brazilians were bubbling with confidence and running rings around the Dutch defence, and when Kaka moved the ball onto his right foot and unleashed a sublime, curling shot from 18 yards it looked set to burst the net. Dutch custodian Maarten Stekelenburg had other ideas, though, flying to his left and palming the strike to safety with a strong left hand. Superb save.
Cool dude of the day: Take a bow Sebastian Abreu. Not many players in the world would have had the guts to dink their crucial penalty in a shoot-out over the keeper, but the Uruguayan ace did. Needing to score to put his country into the last four he chipped his spot-kick over Richard Kingson to send Ghana crashing out of the tournament.
Miss of the day: Picture the scene, it's the final seconds of extra-time and you have a penalty to reach the World Cup semi-finals. Can you hold your nerve? Well, Asamoah Gyan couldn't. The striker who has almost single-handedly carried Ghana through the tournament whacked his effort against the bar. Agony for the Black Stars as they then went on to lose in the penalty shoot-out with Gyan scoring his spot-kick!
