Australia overcame New Zealand in a friendly in Adelaide with Josh Kennedy scoring twice on his return for the home side. Kennedy had not played international football for almost eight months after missing Australia's Asian Cup campaign with a back injury. The Socceroos were without Lucas Neill, Tim Cahill, Harry Kewell and Mark Schwarzer, but they still proved too strong for the All Whites. Kennedy set Australia on their way with the opener after just nine minutes following a terrible mistake by New Zealand keeper Glen Moss. Kennedy doubled the lead just before the hour mark when he headed home from close range. The impressive James Troisi sealed the win in stoppage time when he converted from the penalty spot after Robbie Kruse was felled in the box.
