Ex-Daggers man keen to get pre-season under his belt

Versatile free agent Phil Ifil is looking forward to finding a new club after being released by Dagenham & Redbridge. The ex-Colchester United man, who can operate anywhere on the right-hand side, made 14 league appearances for the Daggers last term. The 24-year-old came through the ranks at Tottenham and is of the firm belief he still has his best years ahead of him. Ifil is currently keeping himself fit until he finds a new club and he cannot wait to start training with his new colleagues. "I've been working hard throughout the summer," he told skysports.com. "It's obviously not going to be the same as in training, but I'm looking forward to getting stuck in. "I've been playing a long time and have played for loads of clubs. I know you need to have a good pre-season to have a good campaign. "In pre-season is where you gain your touch and form, so it's vitally important. I want to get a good pre-season under my belt and kick on."

Debut

Ifil still has fond memories of his professional debut against Liverpool in 2004 and he sees no reason why he cannot return to the top. He was given a chance by Martin Jol at White Hart Lane and Ifil insists his time at Spurs was nothing but beneficial for his career. "It will always be in my head," he reflected. "I look at it as something I've achieved. I want to push on from there. That's my main goal in life. "I want to be the best I can be. When I played against Liverpool when I was really young that was something I really enjoyed doing. There were a couple of injuries at the time. "To get put in was really good. It was really exciting. I'd been at Spurs for 11 years. It was good for my development being around a professional club." The Londoner is eager to find a new club and he is determined to work as hard as he can for his new team to help them achieve their goals. "My plans are to get to a club where I'm going to push on and advance my career," he concluded. "Obviously wherever I am and help them to do whatever they are trying to achieve. Go somewhere and enjoy my football."
