Malta star would snub offers abroad to land a switch to England

Malta star Andre Schembri is hoping to win a move to England during this summer's transfer window. Schembri made an significant impact in Germany - scoring in four of the last seven matches - while on loan at Carl Zeiss Jena from Malta's premier league side Marsaxlokk. The 23-year-old is available on a free transfer, and despite deals on the table from Denmark, Austria and Carl Zeiss Jena, Schembri's mission is to get signed by an English club this summer and follow in the footsteps of fellow countrymen Michael Mifsud and Daniel Bogdanovic. "I have deals on the table away from England but England is the home of football and it is where I want to play," Schembri told skysports.com.

Time

"When I was younger, I came to Aston Villa and contract issues meant that I couldn't join. I am hoping the time for me to come is now but if not, I will never stop trying. " Schembri's representative, Carly Barnes, of www.worldsportsilverstone.com, who specialises in Maltese football, admitted the player is willing to come on trial to secure a deal at any interested clubs. "Andre is a massive talent and with him being on a free transfer, I am sure UK clubs will want to look at him," said Barnes. "With Andre it is not about money, which is refreshing and he is happy to come on trial because he's confident he has the ability to make it.
Crucial goal
"He scored a crucial goal that helped save Carl Zeiss Jena from relegation and has scored in four of the last seven matches. The fans love him in Germany. He also scored for Malta against Turkey and Hungary but there haven't been many British scouts at the matches. "The foreign scouts have all been impressed and that is why he has offers. He could easily stay abroad - but hopefully a club in the UK will show interest in him. "He's an absolute golden nugget for someone and hopefully that will be in the UK."
