Salford City have been promoted to Sky Bet League Two for the first time in the club's history after a 3-0 win over Fylde in the National League play-off final.

Both sides had accelerated up the non-league pyramid in recent years thanks to significant investment on and off the pitch with neither having played in the Football League in their history.

David Beckham, who purchased a 10 per cent stake in the club earlier this year, was in attendance at Wembley Stadium alongside fellow 'Class of '92' Salford investors Gary and Phil Neville, Nicky Butt and Ryan Giggs.

Emmanuel Dieseruvwe opened the scoring for Salford in the 14th minute after Fylde failed to defend a cross into the box, allowing the striker to slot the ball into the bottom corner.

Salford's lead was doubled eight minutes after half-time when Carl Piergianni charged into the box and leapt highest to head home a Ibou Touray corner.

Touray went from provider to goalscorer a few minutes later. His attempted cross in the 60th minute flew straight into the back of the net, lobbing a helpless Jay Lynch and all-but ending Fylde's chances of mounting a comeback.

Fylde players' heads dropped after the third goal with Salford fans turning the final 20 minutes into a party atmosphere at Wembley Stadium.
