La Liga back on Sky Sports - what to watch on opening weekend

La Liga returns to Sky Sports screens this weekend and there are a whole host of eye-catching fixtures to kick off the new season in Spain.

Fans will be able to see more than 300 games throughout the 2017/18 campaign on our new Sky Sports Football channel and via the red button, and the action kicks off on Friday night when Leganes host Alaves, before Valencia travel to Las Palmas later that evening.

The following day, we will be bringing you three more enticing clashes as Celta Vigo entertain Real Sociedad, while newly-promoted Girona then take on an Atletico Madrid side that has managed to keep hold of star striker Antoine Griezmann.

Later on Saturday night, all eyes will be on the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan as Sevilla - who finished last season in fourth - face Espanyol.

The big games keep on coming on Sunday with both champions Real Madrid and last season's runners-up Barcelona kicking off their seasons.

New Barca head coach Ernesto Valverde takes charge of the Catalans for the first time in La Liga when Real Betis visit the Nou Camp on Sunday evening, a match you can see live on Sky Sports Football HD.

Later that night, Los Blancos begin the defence of the title they won last season as they visit Galicia to play Deportivo La Coruna, with that game also live on Sky Sports Football HD.

The visitors may be without suspended forward Cristiano Ronaldo for the encounter at the Abanca-Riazor, but Luka Modric, Gareth Bale and Karim Benzema will all be on display for Zinedine Zidane's team.

Completing the fixtures that day is a meeting between Athletic Bilbao and Getafe, who won promotion from the second division last season.

This feast of top-flight Spanish football comes to a conclusion on Monday night with an appealing double-header, starting with newly promoted Levante's home clash with Villarreal.
