Hee Young Park and Ha Na Jang battled through testing early conditions to set the pace at the halfway stage of the LPGA Taiwan Championship.
The Korean duo survived the worst of the weather as gusting winds and rain battered the Miramar Golf and Country Club course at the start of day two in Taipei.
The pair, who were tied for fifth overnight, two shots off the lead, carded second successive three-under-par 69s to move one clear of a four-strong chasing pack which included compatriot So Yeon Ryo (68).
Canada's Brooke Henderson added a one-under 71 to her opening-day 68 to join the Koreans alongside Lee Anne Pace (70) of South Africa and China's Shanshan Feng (69).
Eun Hee Ji of Korea signed for a second successive 70 to lie a further stroke back on 140, one ahead of Scotland's Catriona Matthew and joint-overnight leader Beatriz Recari (72) of Spain.
Speaking to the LPGA's official website, Jang said: "This week just being patient is very important, because the weather is so bad and the golf conditions so bad.
"That's why I'm just hitting the fairway, the green. It's very important this week."
Park added: "Today was always difficult with wind and it makes you think about every single shot. You have to be very careful out there and that makes you more tired.
"I improved my putting today which gave me confidence and allowed me to be a bit more aggressive."
Defending champion Lydia Ko of New Zealand, who won by nine strokes last year, is tied for 18th, five shots behind the second-round pacesetters.
