Defender out with knee injury

Sunderland defender Phil Bardsley has been ruled out of Scotland's game with Brazil with a knee injury. Bardsley picked up the problem during Sunderland's 2-0 defeat to Liverpool on Sunday. The full-back sustained the injury during the game but battled on to complete the 90 minutes as Sunderland had already used their allocated three substitutions. A statement on Sunderland's website confirmed: "Defender Phil Bardsley will miss Sunday's international game between Scotland and Brazil after picking up a knock in Sunderland's defeat against Liverpool. "The full back was in line to pick up his fourth cap for Scotland, however, he has been withdrawn from the squad after suffering a knee injury. "Bardsley will receive treatment and be monitored by the club's medical team over the coming days." Bardsley joins Rangers star Steven Naismith and Everton goalkeeper Iain Turner in pulling out of Craig Levein's squad for the clash with the South American giants at Emirates Stadium. Levein is waiting to see if Celtic midfielder Scott Brown will be able to shake off a problem to link up with the squad.
